AYSO VIP Soccer Program (San Juan Capistrano)
  • Soccer program designed for disabled children ages 6-10
  • Volunteers assist as personal buddies to children during practices.
    No soccer knowledge necessary
  • One afternoon a week after school, August-Nov

J. F. Shea Therapeutic Riding Center (San Juan Capistrano)
  • Therapeutic riding program for disabled children and adults
  • No riding experience necessary
  • After school, Saturdays, or one week Summer camps
  • 20 hour commitment and regularly scheduled times required

Little League Challenger program (San Juan Capistrano)
  • Baseball program designed for disabled children
  • Volunteers serve as buddies to children on the field
  • No baseball experience required
  • Late Feb- Early June.

Special Camp for Special Kids (San Juan Capistrano)
  • Summer camping program for disabled children
  • volunteers work as buddies with individual children

Capo Valley Boys and Girls Club (San Juan Capistrano)
  • Program designed to give children a place to be after school
  • Help with homework and various activities
  • After school 2:30-5:30 Mon-Thur.
  • Summers 7am-6pm times flexible
  • Application and brief interview required
  • Live San finger printing and current TB test required

CHEC Family Resource Center Homework Club (San Juan Capistrano)
A ministry of Mission Hospital
  • Program provides homework help to lower school students whose parents are non-English speaking
  • Volunteers help students with homework assignments and basic tutoring
  • Mon., Wed., and Thurs. 3:15-4:30 pm. (school year only)
  • Facility is near San Juan Mission (walking distance from SMES)

Corazon de Vida (Mexico)
  • Take a bus to visit orphanages in Mexico
  • For a fee of $25 per person Corazon De Vida escorts students to various orphanages in Baja for the day.
  • Volunteers interact with children and learn more about their situation.
  • 8 hours of service given

Laura's House (San Juan Capistrano)
  • Walk-in center for abused women and children

Orange Coast Interfaith Shelter (Costa Mesa next to Newport Beach)
  •  Wonderful program with many opportunities to serve and interact with homeless children and families
  • Tutoring, children's programs, cooks
  • Weekday afternoons and evenings.
  • Live scan finger printing and current TB test required

  • Program provides homework assistance to at-risk youth
  • Volunteers tutor, readers, and academic mentors

  House Building Opportunities

Corazon (Mexico and Laguna Hills)
  • SMES has already completed their house build for the year 2006-2007.
  • Small groups (three people) may participate on a build with PRIOR PERMISSION from the Corazon office ONLY!
  • Organization that builds homes in Mexico for families in need
  • Students can build homes, work at the headquarters in Laguna Niguel, or help with children's programs in Mexico

Rebuild Together (Throughout Orange County)
  • A program that seeks to "...rebuild houses and lives through community resources and the spirit of volunteerism."
  • Rebuild days March 24-25, 2007
  • National Rebuild day is April 28, 2007
  • They conduct year round building and assistance projects.
  • Must be over 14 years old

Habitat for Humanity (Throughout Orange County)
  • A program that seeks to "...build and renovate affordable housing..."
  • Volunteers can assist with various activities including house builds.
  • Volunteers must be 16 years or older to volunteer on house builds.
