Sixth Grade History
World Cultures
(a one-year core
academic course)
In the sixth grade
curriculum, students
learn about those people
and events that ushered
in the dawn of major
Western and non-Western
civilizations. Included
are the studies of early
humans and the early
societies of the Near
East, Egypt, Greece, and
the classical
civilizations of India
and China. In studying
the ancient world,
students come to
appreciate the
significance of
geographic place in the
development of the human
story. They acquire a
sense of the everyday
life of the people—their
accomplishments,
contributions, and ideas
that helped transform
the world. Four projects
are required.
