Eighth Grade English
(One Year of English
required)
This course focuses on
four basic skills areas:
writing (expository and
research), grammar,
vocabulary development,
and reading/literary
analysis. By the end of
the year, students
develop proficiency in
each of these areas.
Using literature,
students write about and
interpret the author’s
purpose, characters’
motivations, and the
structure of the text.
Students identify
conflict, theme,
characterization,
setting, foreshadowing,
and point of view.
English 8 studies seek
to relate and compare
texts to the students’
lives as much as
possible.
