About the Lower School
The St. Margaret’s Lower
School, kindergarten
through grade five, has
a program which is
traditional in nature,
emphasizing the basics
of reading, language
arts, and mathematics
while nurturing
creativity and critical
thinking skills.
Attention to the whole
child involves a
commitment to a strong
academic curriculum as
well as encouraging
development in the areas
of fine arts and
physical education. The
uniqueness of each
student requires
provision for special
needs, interests, and
varying abilities. Each
classroom has a special
center for computer
technology and
enrichment.
Students are instructed
in self-contained
classrooms with an
average class size of
twenty-two students. The
methods of
implementation for the
Lower School program
focus on whole-class
instruction with small
group and individual
instruction used
throughout each day with
the help of classroom
teaching assistants and
special subject
teachers. Interspersed
within all academics is
the development of a
reverence for God and
His creation through
attendance at daily
Chapel and seasonal
activities. All Lower
School students may
serve as acolytes and
scripture readers in
morning Chapel.
Extra-Curricular
Activities
St. Margaret’s offers a
variety of after-school
activities for the Lower
School student which
cover a wide-range of
interests: art, choir,
instrumental music,
chess, dance, drama,
math, science, karate,
fun sports, and
intramural sports.
Extended Day
Extended Day is offered
to Lower School students
in grades one through
five to provide a safe
environment for children
to interact with other
children. Extended Day
is offered Monday
through Friday from 3:00
p.m. to 6:00 p.m., with
the exception of
vacation days and other
school holidays. Hours
on school minimum days
will be determined. The
cost per day per child
is $5.00 for those
registered in the
program. If an emergency
arises and there is
space available, your
child will be welcome
for a charge of $5.00
per hour. |
