Award Winning Children's Author Ben Mikaelsen
Ben lives in a log cabin near Bozeman, Montana, with a 700 pound black bear that he adopted and has raised for the last twenty years. Author of award-winning books such as Petey, Touching Spirit Bear and Stranded, Ben Mikaelson visited with St. Margaret's middle and upper school students October 22nd. He spoke with Dr. Beemer's 10th grade Modern Global Studies classes about political violence in Guatemala which he addressed in his latest book, Tree Girl. For the middle school students Mr. Mikaelson presented Becoming the Author of Your Own Life, in which he recounted his struggles in becoming a writer. By relating his experiences Mr. Mikaelsen aims to empower students to realize their own potential.

Middle School Scrabble Club
If you like playing with words (and with little wooden tiles) then  come on over for the Middle School Scrabble Club. It meets every Friday during lunchtime in the library. Just bring yourself and your lunch (yes, food in the library!) and we'll bring the Scrabble boards. Have fun while building your word power, and who knows, you might win a "fabulous prize" at one of our yearly tournaments.

Lower School Battle of the Books
Battle of the Books is a club where students read books and join in book-related games and discussions. In the Spring, St. Margarets will take two teams to compete with other Orange County independent schools in a Jeopardy-style competition where the questions start with "In which book ..." and students answer with the title and author of a book. Any 4th or 5th grade student is invited to join. Meetings are on Tuesdays at lunchtime in Miss O'Leary's room. See you there!
